Gangster Squad Trailer: Ryan Gosling Stars in Legendary L.A. Crime Drama

The first trailer for Gangster Squad, starring Ryan Gosling and based on a truth-based criminal saga from the late 1940s, has been released.

Tales From the Gangster Squad was a published series of articles by Paul Lieberman that appeared in the L.A. Times over half a century ago.

Set in 1949, the film centers on mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) who reaps ill-gotten gains from drugs, guns, prostitutes and gambling.

And Cohen it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are firmly under his control.

It's up to a few "outsider" cops, Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Gosling) to bring down this epic crime boss for good.

Emma Stone, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Patrick, Nick Nolte and Anthony Mackie also star in the film directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland).
